Why cup sizes vary from home to home, what drinking water with meals actually does, and how thirst gets confused with hunger — short, single-question practices answered here.
Do carbonated drinks count as fluid?
They enter the fluid total, but they are counted together with the sugar they carry. The guideline recommends keeping free sugar below ten percent of total energy.
Do herbal teas count as fluid?
They do, and they add to the day's total. The guideline lists herbal teas among the drinks for workplace snack breaks.
Is the eight glasses of water a day advice right?
The guideline finds this advice too little for some people and too much for others; even so, it says it should be thought of as a good target.

How should you flavor water?
The guideline states that water can be flavored with mint, cinnamon sticks, lemon and ice made from fruit. There is no need to add sugar.
How much caffeine is in tea and coffee?
The guideline states that coffee contains 50-300 milligrams of caffeine per 240 milliliters and brewed tea 15-50 milligrams.
