How many items make up an evening table?

What decides the meal is not the number of items but how many food groups the table holds. When three groups come together, the meal is complete.

When you look at an evening table, the number of items is a misleading measure; if all five of five items come from the same group, the table is crowded but one-sided. What decides the meal is how many food groups the table holds. When a grain item, a protein item and a vegetable item come together, the meal counts as complete.
