Should you eat when hungry or on a schedule?

Neither one is enough on its own. A schedule gives you predictability; the hunger signal tells you whether that schedule actually fits you.

Tying meals to the clock and leaving them to the feeling of hunger are usually described as alternatives to each other. Yet the two do different jobs: a schedule builds predictability and makes the shape of the day knowable; the hunger signal tells you whether that schedule really fits you. One is the frame, the other is the feedback.
