Nutrition Tip

Yogurt or ayran, which one is a portion?

Both are from the milk group but their measures differ: one portion of yogurt is 200 milliliters, of ayran 350 milliliters.

Yogurt and ayran come from the same group but their portion measures are not the same. TÜBER, Türkiye's national dietary guideline, gives one standard portion of yogurt as 1 small bowl or 200 milliliters, and that of ayran as 1.5 cups or 1 large glass, that is 350 milliliters. The difference comes from ayran being thinned with water; a larger volume is needed to take in the same contribution to the group.
