Does toasting bread change its calories?
A toaster drives the water out of bread: the calories per 100 grams rise, but the total energy of the slice stays almost the same.
Toasting does not change the total energy of the slice to any meaningful degree. According to USDA data, a fresh 25 gram slice of white bread carries about 67 calories; the same slice drops to 22 grams as toast and comes to about 64 calories. What goes is not calories but water.
